CANON: Hornblower AU/CRAU CHARACTER: Horatio Hornblower BASIC INFORMATION: His application is here for the more down and dirty, but the gist is that this Horatio has grown up to the ripe old age of fifteen-sixteen-ish in the Hunger Games universe, and has been dragged to Starhue out of his first night in the Arena as a tribute, having had to make his first kill shortly after the bloodbath, a little less than a year after watching his best friend killed in the previous Games (which is eerily more similar to his original tv canon than one would think). This, on top of his underlying shy awkwardness and lack of a way with words (and the underlying active abuses he suffered around this age in his original canon which unsurprisingly fit into the AU like a glove), makes him a very quiet shadow of a person who is fairly certain everyone else in the world could turn on him at any second.
CURRENT PLANS: To farm???? He grew up on a mass farm and had semi-recently graduated from fruit harvester to farmhand, so he just. wants to be. on his farm. farming. But also, because the world is infinitely less oppressive here than what he's used to, he'd like to meet other people just enough to learn things from them. Grow exotic plants? Let him help so he can learn. Raise some crazy animal? Teach him about husbanding them. Make some amazing artisan good out of things he himself knows how to grow? First of all, assure him you aren't a wizard, but then let him see he wants to learn. WANTED CR: Mentors. Also just normal friends. Horatio has had a very, very lonely life, and he's slow to trust (or even just converse if not forced), but he badly needs just. other people in his life. So, yes. People to teach him things and people to draw him out of his shell a little more. If you can give him both, congratulations, you've adopted an overly skinny teenager who still will barrel roll out of the room if you give him too much positive attention at once.
But seriously, I might toss Roleswap!Cid at this boy, he could fit that quiet and non judgemental (he swears, he's growing out of his many years of abuse!) mentor role. On how to fit in with people. Or at least fit next to people quietly.
Now that Alec is like, slowly realizing that maybe the things he does here actually matter and he isn't going to wake up from this weird farming dream any second now, I would love to snag some more threads with ur boy. :(
Alec has next to no practical skills, but he can still visit Horatio just to see if maybe he wants to hang out? Not that he knows how to hang out--but he can try anyway!
Now that Horatio isn't jumping entirely out of his skin whenever anyone even looks at him, sounds like a plan.
Does Alec like sitting in trees and/or carrying baskets if someone else does all the work and/or being the only one talking because honestly all those things sound like hanging out right?
HE CAN CARRY BASKETS SO GOOD and he will literally talk for an hour straight with very minimal input if he lets him. So I think they could make this work.
Sooo Toby has a weakness for children/teens who have Seen Too Much (and has killed almost-gods to protect her nieces/nephews and other kids) annnnd uh Horatio would be just a bit younger than the daughter she's estranged from etc etc so YEAH if you want him to have a grumpy-but-protective pseudo Mom for your boy, Toby's available.
The hilarious thing TOBY is really bad about working herself to the bone (...almost literally sometimes) to avoid her Issues BUT she will keep her loved ones from doing the same.
I'm having fun with your dude, okay. Does he need a little ghostfriend in his life?? If yes, that will just kind of keep happening, because where does this little ghostcreep even come from sometimes?? You think you're alone on your lonely farm and then they're just there, you know?
I mean, yes he does??? Honestly he needs more sweetness in his life and (now that he isn't 100% sure this horror wants to kill him) Phalanx is such a sweet??? Like 5000x sweeter than most human beings he's met in his life????
They should come hang on his farm and stuff. Just soft quiet eldritch friendship things. c:
Real talk I clutch my cheeks at every tag what a cute horror?? Although haunting with minor amounts of warning would be appreciated. I'm not saying Horatio's jumpy, but. He's probably never not going to try to break the nose of people who sneak up on him.

He definitely gives off the Vibe of being too tired for being his age, so she should feel free to sweep in carefully and hen him basically whenever.

I am also horrible for laughing while imagining it. Ghostpile would be so surprised to have a broken nose gfdjk
But yes. I'll try to make sure they're outside of punching/shovel-swinging range when they appear.
